The town of Hallenberg is situated in the picturesque Hochsauerland district of the North Rhine - Westphalia region of Germany. The area is famed for natural beauty and for its nearby mountains at Winterberg, just over 20 miles to the North West. Visitors to the area will find that Hallenberg hotels offer comfort, style and a warm welcome and will accommodate all tastes and budgets easily.

The town itself has many attractions and landmarks to visit whilst staying in the area, from museums to monuments. The quaint ice museum in the town center which has been open since May 2010 opens twice a month for visitors to admire the stunning ice sculptures created there and the sculptors themselves will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

The town center is a beautiful and historical collection of narrow streets, cobbled roads and ancient buildings. The Parish Church of St Heribert, which was completed in the mid 1400's, is an architectural wonder and well worth a visit. The inside of the building features stunning baroque altars and some significant Renaissance frescos.

Just outside the church the streets are lined with picture postcard half timber houses and classic German architectural styles which surround the main marketplace which features at its heart the fountain of St Peter. The fountain was built in 1756 and was once the source of all the safe drinking water for the town. Today the area has a busy market once a week and is a pleasant place to meet friends or enjoy a relaxing coffee from one of the bars or inns around the area.

There is plenty to do around the town of Hallenberg, much of which involves making the most of the stunning and vast countryside which surrounds it. Hallenberg is one of the registered resorts with Ski Area Sauerland, the largest winter sports area north of the Alps which features around 100 miles of well maintained trails and 150 ski lifts. The nearby mountains offer visitors the chance to take part in a range of winter sports including skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and many more activities, all of which can be arranged via the town's tourist office.

From the shrubby moorland landscape of the west to the lush meadows of the east, or even the steep Sauerland Mountains with their lush green forests, Hallenberg is a perfect location from which to explore some of Germany's most unspoiled countryside.

Cyclists will also find many trails and paths to explore and fearless mountain bikers will enjoy the challenge of the lower mountain slopes. Horse riding, climbing, swimming and pole walking are all popular pastimes too and can be arrange via one of the Hallenberg hotels receptions or by tourist offices in the town.
